Relaxed vs. Natural

Hey Everyone,

There is so much unnecessary controversy between relaxed and natural people that I do not understand. Obviously, I am Pro-Natural, but I am not Anti-relaxer either.
Since my BC, there has been tremendous growth in my hair and I do not regret my choice whatsoever. That is because my hair has become healthier in the process. Relaxed people may have healthy hair as well because relaxed does not mean unhealthy and natural does not always mean healthy. Personally, my hair was just not doing so well while I was putting relaxers in it. It simply depends on the hair that is on your head.
Each person should do what they choose to do with their hair without the negative input from another person just because they do not envision themselves with the same style. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion, but to hurt someone in the process is not appropriate. Too often, someone will comment negatively about good hair, nappy hair, and so on, but why is it that those words are even used in that context? Good hair is not always fine or straight and nappy hair does not always need a hot comb.
When it comes to doing something like a "big chop", you just have to be careless about what everyone says. Just do what's best for you and what suits you. The opinion of others will definitely hinder a decision when it should not even matter in the first place. India Arie said it best, "I am not my hair." Just think about this when you are making a positive choice when it comes to the hair and what others may say will not matter.
Do not be scared to rock your natural hair. It may feel a little weird at first, but many will be surprised how many compliments that they will receive. It feels really good to stand out from a community full of weaves and sew-ins and surprisingly, many males have given me positive feedback about my natural hair and even more have wanted to touch it (lol). You just never know. Do not let insecurities hold you back, stand out! It will be worth it.

Please feel free to ask questions and comment with your thoughts. Thank you!
