In case you have viewed my blog and don't know some of the terms that I use, I'll give you a little help and also mention some commonly used terms that you may see in the future.
BC: Big Chop. Cutting all relaxed hair to become fully natural
Braid-out: Braiding one's hair to achieve a wavy style once taken out.
Co-wash: Washing with conditioner instead of shampoo
DIY: Do it yourself
Dusting: Cutting off small amounts of hair..not exactly trimming
EVOO: Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Henna: A natural hair-dye
Humectant: Products that help draw moisture from the air
Length Check: Often checking the length progress of the hair.
Low Manipulation: Not handling the hair as much. Less heat, less combing etc
Natural Hair Guru: Someone who has high knowledge of natural hair
Natural Hair Journey: The period and lessons learned from going natural.
Pineappling: Tying the hair in a pineapple shape with a scarf on the top of the head in order to keep a style overnight.
Pre-Poo: Steps done before shampooing
Product Junkie: Someone who often buys and tries new products
Protective Styling: Styling the hair so that the ends are protected
Sealing: Keeping moisture in one's hair usually with oils or other moisturizing products
Shrinkage: How much the hair shrinks usually when wet. It makes the hair appear shorter.
Slip: How coated, easy to detangle, and slippery a product makes the hair
Stretching: Techniques to give the hair length
Transition: The period when switching from relaxed to natural without cutting off the relaxed ends
Trimming: Cutting unhealthy hair
TWA: Teeny weeny Afro
Twist-out: Twisting one's hair to achieve a more defined style once taken out.
Two-Strand Twists: Having two equal pieces of hair in size and length and twisting them together
Wash-and-go: Washing the hair and letting it air dry
Now you hopefully know a little more about the natural hair language. I couldn't leave you hanging lol.
