Watch Out!

Hey everyone,

Have you ever looked on the back of a product at the ingredients and wondered what all of those long ingredient names were? Well I'm going to give you a pretty good idea of those ingredients to watch out for that may be damaging to your hair.

# 1 Alcohol: As you may know, alcohol dries out you hair, but not every type has that resolution. Alcohols Steryl and Cetyl are actually good for your hair because it is fatty and is derived from natural sources. What you should watch out for is Ethanol and Isoprphyl.

# 2 Mineral Oil and Petrolatum: Derived from crude oil or petroleum, both of these prevent oxygen from both entering and exiting and also clogs pours.

# 3 Polyethylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol: These are toxic and used in things such as anti-frizz and cleaners. It is used in products because it is a thickening agent.

# 4 Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate: This creates the lathering in different products. It is used in cleaners, soaps etc. and dries out the hair.

# 5 "Cones": "Cones" such as silicones and dimethicones are waxes that give the illusion of softness

# 6 Parabens: Highly toxic, parabens are bad for hair and is used as a preservative.

Because all of these ingredients are in products does not mean that it will make your hair damaged. It may work well for you. This is just to help those who are careful of what products they use. Though it may be difficult and or pricey to get natural products, it may be the best for your hair. Watch out for products that claim to be all natural, but may not be. One way to know if a product is organic, is to look for the "USDA" seal of approval.
